Habitual availability to perceive hypnotic influence, enter a hypnotic trance state under external influence and / or autosuggestion. It is determined by different tests, for example, suggestion of loss of balance, inability to separate joined hands, or short memory loss in the form of amnesia. Indirect signs of a high hypnotizability can serve such qualities as personality, spontaneity, softness, complacency, confidence or non-standard thinking among others.
On a daily basis, they usually confuse suggestibility with hypnotizability. When someone proudly says "I do not submit to suggestion at all" as a rule it is understood that it is hypnotizable or super hypnotizable. Where is the difference?
It is about the degree of susceptibility to external suggestion, this is determined by the subjective willingness to submit and submit to our influence, or the willingness to change behavior not based on arguments with reasonable, logical reasons, and only by a requirement or proposition. , which comes from another person or groups of people (such as Sects). With this, the same person does not give clear accounts in this situation, subordinating himself, continues considering his way of acting as a result of his own initiative and own choice. A property contrary to suggestibility is criticism. As a result of high suggestibility, it forms many contradictory opinions and judgments apart from the rest.
Suggestibility, therefore, is the ability to submit to suggestion, and hypnotizability to hypnosis.
A suggestible person does not have to be hypnotizable, and a hypnotizable person can be difficult to suggest. Let's say, for example, that someone is not hypnotizable but is highly suggestible in a medical or pedagogical way, and someone is not very suggestible in a normal state, but is perfectly hypnotizable.
The term "Suggestibility", borrowed from normal life, and introduced into medical practice, initially in the meaning of hypnotic or posthypnotic suggestibility, now under a better study of the object, received a broader focus. The problem is based on the fact that the action of suggestion is not necessarily related to a special state of spiritual activity, known under the name of hypnosis, as the cases of suggestion carried out in the awake state prove it. Furthermore, suggestion in the broad sense of the word is one of the ways of influencing one person over another even under extreme conditions.
Because suggestion serves as an important factor in our social life and should be the object of attention not only from doctors, but from all specialists, who study the conditions of social life and its laws. In any case, social psychology represents in itself a field of scientific research, very broad and still little worked.
